At Simply Recruited, our mission is to simplify the college recruiting process by creating a platform that connects the right players with the right coaches. We aim to make recruiting more accessible, efficient, and fair for athletes and programs at every level. By removing barriers and streamlining communication, our goal is to make the journey to college athletics smoother, more affordable, and more effective for everyone involved.
Simply Recruited was founded by Emily Hafner, a former All-American tennis player and college coach who experienced the recruiting process from both sides. The platform was created to solve the problems she faced as both a player and a coach: countless emails, wasted time, unnecessary costs, and missed opportunities.
SimplyRecruited exists to change that. Built with athletes and coaches in mind, the platform focuses on what truly matters: finding the right fit.
When I first set out to play college tennis, I knew nothing about recruiting. I grew up in a small town in Germany and had no idea how I could play college tennis in the U.S. I learned that many players use agencies, but I couldn't afford to spend thousands of dollars on something that didn't guarantee results. So, I decided to take recruiting into my own hands.
I recorded my own recruiting video, sent hundreds of emails to coaches, and hoped for the best. Most went unanswered, but I was fortunate that a few coaches took a chance on me. I went on to play at the University of Montevallo in Alabama, where I competed for four years and served as team captain for two of them.
At Montevallo, I earned a double degree in Management and Finance and was named Finance Elite, awarded to the top graduating student in my major. I was also a consistent President's List student and made the CSC Academic Honor Roll all four years.
Due to COVID, I gained an extra year of eligibility and entered the transfer portal expecting the process to be easier. With years of college matches under my belt and a stronger understanding of how recruiting worked, I thought opportunities would come quickly. Instead, I realized that being on the portal only meant my name was out there but did not guarantee responses. I found myself sending hundreds of emails again and facing the same challenges as before. Eventually, I was able to transfer and play for Metropolitan State University of Denver, where I continued my academic and athletic journey.
In my first year of the MBA program, I competed at the highest level of college tennis, reaching a career-high number eight national singles ranking, competing at nationals, and earning CSC Academic All-American, All-District, and Academic Honor Roll honors. I also received the PacWest Newcomer of the Year Award and made the All-PacWest team.
In my second year of the MBA program, I served as assistant coach for the men's and women's tennis teams while completing my MBA with a concentration in Business Analytics. I was named Most Outstanding Student in the MBA program. Coaching gave me the other side of the recruiting perspective. I saw how overwhelming and time-consuming it was for coaches to sort through endless emails and player profiles. Just like players, coaches often miss opportunities because of how inefficient the system is.
Through my journey as a player, student, and coach, I experienced the recruiting process from every angle. Those challenges inspired me to create Simply Recruited, a platform built to make recruiting simple, efficient, and accessible while giving every athlete and coach equal opportunities.
